It does not seem possible that May is going to be here! I will set up my handmade rustic willow furniture at my usual spot at Orchard in Bloom on Thursday. This will be the twenty-fifth year for this wonderful show which features lovely gardens, impressive displays and everything for the gardener. It will be my twenty-third year in a row here.
I am hoping for better weather than last year and it appears that it will be. I will be set up across from my buddy Paul VanDuyn with his colorful glass bird feeders and garden lights. It is always good to spend time with him. He and I have done this and other shows for years and spend time at my shop sitting by the fire and trying to resolve the mysteries of Life. He is a very generous person and we try to help each other whenever we can. He is a very soulful guy and has shared his thoughtful poetry with me.
My friend Potter Carol Bell will be the Featured Artist at Orchard this year.I will also enjoy seeing old friends from the volunteers at the show. They do the best job coordinating the show and it has been very gratifying to see the students from Orchard School mature year after year in their hard work in putting on the show. I think the hands on experience they gain is really valuable.
I will be making some trellises and loveseats at the show this year and will cut a load of willows to take today or tomorrow. It has been a joy to see the world which seemed so dead and gray just a short time ago explode into the long-awaited miracle of a spectacular Indiana Spring. As I travel repeatedly up and down Spring Mill road on the way to and from the show, I will be treated to one of the most beautiful drives around. I will also attend my 50th reunion of my high school class from Fortville this weekend.
If you are a gardener and would like to get some inspiration for your garden, this is the place to be.
