Indiana art fair

The following appeared in the February ninth 2014 Indianapolis Star column authored by lifestyle correspondent Sally Faulk Nancrede:

One of the soothing gems of this wild winter will be Feb. 15 at the Indiana State Museum. The 11th annual Indiana

Art Fair will offer wares by 60 of Indiana’s top artisans.

A preview — open to the public — will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 14, featuring art and refreshments.

Artist Greg Adams, who makes rustic willow furniture by hand,

calls the preview night “one of the most fun events I have ever attended. The priority is Indiana arts, foods

and drinks.”

The art fair itself, he says, “has matured to the status of one of the quality shows in Indianapolis. The show has a terrific selection of Indiana art, and the museum is great.”

Artworks range from fine to functional to funky.

For instance, artist John Bundy, known for his duck decoys, will be displaying tables he and Adams collaborated on. Adams made the bases; Bundy did the tops.

The artisans represent more than 20 Indiana counties.

“We are excited to offer our most popular midwinter event again this year,” said Carrie Miller, program manager for the Indiana State Museum. “The Indiana Art Fair showcases some of our most enterprising, emerging and well-known Hoosier artisans.”

The event is supported by the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the City

of Indianapolis.

The Indiana Art Fair is free with regular museum admission. The preview Friday is $25 for the public or $20 for museum members and includes admission to the event Saturday.
